About the Production
Two Edge Theater, in collaboration with Gwydion Theater Company, is seeking actors for a production of Arthur Miller's powerful American drama A View From the Bridge.
Set in the Red Hook, Brooklyn neighborhood in the 1950s, A View From the Bridge is a story of family loyalty, illegal immigration, desire, masculinity and betrayal. At its center is Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman whose fierce devotion to his niece becomes increasingly complicated when two immigrant relatives enter his home. What begins as an act of family loyalty ultimately forces Eddie to confront desires and loyalties he cannot control.
This is a deeply human, emotionally charged play about the choices we make when love, pride and obsession collide.
What We're Looking For
Actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. We are particularly interested in performers who bring emotional depth, specificity and a strong sense of ensemble to the work.
We are looking for actors who are willing to take risks and explore the emotional complexity beneath Miller's characters. This production will emphasize the intimate, claustrophobic world of the Carbone family and the increasingly dangerous collision between love, loyalty, pride and desire.
Strong ensemble skills are essential. Several supporting actors may be asked to play multiple roles and participate in the ensemble.
Principal Roles
EDDIE CARBONE
ROLE CAST — UNDERSTUDY BEING SOUGHTMale, 50s. A Brooklyn longshoreman. Tough, proud, hardworking and deeply devoted to his family. Eddie sees himself as the protector and provider of his household, but beneath his outward confidence is a man struggling with feelings he cannot acknowledge. He is complicated, charismatic, funny, volatile and ultimately tragic. The role requires significant emotional range and the ability to move convincingly from warmth and humor to anger, desperation and profound vulnerability.
BEATRICE CARBONE
Female, 40s–50'sEddie's wife. Warm, practical and deeply committed to her family. Beatrice understands Eddie better than almost anyone, and she recognizes the emotional undercurrents in their home before Eddie is willing to acknowledge them himself. She is loving but increasingly frustrated by Eddie's behavior.
CATHERINE
Female, 17–early 20'sEddie and Beatrice's niece, who has been raised in their home. Bright, affectionate and increasingly independent, Catherine is entering adulthood and beginning to discover her own desires and ambitions. Her growing relationship with Rodolpho becomes the catalyst for Eddie's increasingly possessive behavior.
MARCO
Male, 25–35An Italian immigrant who enters the Carbone household seeking work and a better life for his family. Marco is physically imposing, serious, proud and intensely devoted to his wife and children back in Italy. He is a man of few words whose quiet strength becomes increasingly formidable.
RODOLPHO
Male, 20's — light brown or blonde hair preferredMarco's younger brother. Charismatic, expressive, optimistic and somewhat unconventional. Rodolpho dreams of building a life in America and quickly falls in love with Catherine. His openness, interests and personality make him a target of Eddie's suspicion and hostility.
ALFIERI
Male, 50's–70'sA lawyer who serves as both participant and observer in the story. He understands the complicated moral and legal territory surrounding the Carbones and the immigrant community. Alfieri functions almost as a Greek chorus, guiding the audience through the tragedy while recognizing that there may be no way to stop it.

Male, 60s+A neighbor of the Carbones. A member of the Brooklyn community and husband of Mrs. Lipari. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.
MRS. LIPARI
Female, 60s+A neighbor of the Carbones and wife of Mr. Lipari. May also be considered for additional supporting or ensemble roles and may play multiple roles within the production.

Full Script: A View From the BridgeRehearsal & Performance Schedule
There will be no holiday performances, with the exception of New Year's Eve, December 31. The New Year's Eve performance will be followed by a special NYE party and celebration. Actors should be prepared to commit to the full rehearsal and performance schedule.
Audition Preparation
All actors will audition using sides from the script. Sides will be provided once an audition appointment has been scheduled.
